Our Story

How We Met

We both went to college at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. We were both involved in Greek Life, and although our Greek chapters partnered together for homecoming in the fall of our sophomore year, we didn't meet until early spring 2011. We dated for a little while, and once we left college, we ended up seeing each other again because we had similar taste in music, similar friend circles, and we would all end up at the same concerts together. We started dating again in the fall of 2014 and on January 1 of 2015, Liz asked Thomas to be her boyfriend, and we've been together ever since.

The Proposal

We had a weekend trip to Arkansas planned with our closest friend group from lockdown. Thomas had planned to propose during that weekend and only shared it with his mom so none of our friends knew. On Sunday we all woke up to start going our separate ways—half the group was going on a hike and the other half was returning to KC. Thomas managed to gather everyone in the main area while Liz was still packing up. When Liz walked out, he pulled her over to the circle of friends and immediately dropped to one knee. Liz was completely surprised and immediately started crying tears of joy. Thomas didn’t even get a word out before Liz burst out with a resounding "yes!"

Things To Do

Visiting from out of town? Below you'll find a list of recommendations for things to do around Kansas City.

  1. Art Aficionado's Delight: The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is awesome! You can wander through tons of cool art and the best part—it's free!

  2. Artsy Vibes in Crossroads: If you're into artsy stuff, hit up the Crossroads Arts District. Art galleries, funky shops, and on the first Friday of the month, there's this awesome art walk. It's a pretty cool. It's also where we spent most of our time in KC and is the neighborhood that our venue is located in.

  3. BBQ Bonanza: Kansas City is barbecue heaven. Joe's, Char Bar, Slaps—pick one, and thank us later.

  4. Stroll & Shop at the Plaza: Check out the Country Club Plaza. It's got this cool Spanish vibe, lots of shops and restaurants, and those fountains! Perfect for a chill stroll.

  5. Time Travel at WWI Museum: Into history? The World War I Museum is a hidden gem. Cool artifacts, interactive stuff, and a tower with some pretty cool views of the city.

  6. Consider a Visit to Power and Light: Some folks talk it up, but Power and Light District is there if you're into that scene. It's okay, nothing mind-blowing, just one of those places with a lot of bars and restaurants in one area.

  7. Scenic Drive Magic: October's the time for a chill drive. Check out the countryside's fall colors. The Missouri River Byway and Flint Hills Byway are like a nature painting.
